GEO in Bali: how to get your business recommended by AI
Travellers and locals now ask ChatGPT and Gemini where to stay, eat and book. AI answers with three or four names. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work of making sure one of them is yours.
What is GEO?
GEO means making your business show up and get recommended in AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. SEO helps you rank on Google's list of links. GEO helps you become the answer itself.
AI does not invent recommendations. It searches the web, reads what it finds about businesses like yours, and names the ones it can find and trust. If your information is thin, wrong or scattered, it names your competitor.

The 10-step GEO checklist
- Claim and complete your Google Business Profile: category, description, hours, 20+ real photos, WhatsApp and booking link.
- Use exactly the same business name, address and phone everywhere.
- Write your key facts as plain text on your website: where you are, what you offer, prices, who it suits, and an FAQ.
- Add structured data (schema.org) so AI can read your business type, address and offers.
- Check that your robots.txt does not block AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and Google-Extended.
- Submit your site to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, with a sitemap.
- Be listed on the main sites for your type: Booking.com, Airbnb, Agoda and TripAdvisor for stays; review sites for cafés, clinics and spas.
- Ask every happy guest or client for a review, every time.
- Get mentioned: local "best of" articles, blogs, Reddit answers, news.
- Re-test every month and fix what changed.
